Re-engagement for a more productive Europe

This project brought together 3 different countries (Luxembourg, Spain and Italy) in a series of cultural and artistic exchanges aimed at unemployed and underemployed learners without a higher degree. Participants were given the opportunity to learn practical communication, literacy, social and problem solving skills through theatre methods: acting and directing techniques, scene writing and eventually the practical aspects of putting a show together including the promotion of the project. Each country organized a workshop about one particular aspect of theatre making: in Italy participants learned how to generate stories and put them in to an artistic form thanks to the “Viewpoints” theatre method; in Spain participants learned from published playwrights how to put their ideas on the page and in Luxembourg participants learned about alternative communication methods in general and how to promote their work in particular. Each workshop brought together participants from at least two countries speaking up to 7 different languages (including Italian Sign Language) and was concluded by a public presentation by the participants (performance, reading or discussion). These workshops were the basis of the collaboration between learners and staff to create a new multilingual theatre piece. The ideas generated and written down in the first two workshops were integrated into the new play “99%” written by two authors and workshop teachers, directed and performed by professional artists from the organizing companies and represented in the 3 partner countries (15 public performances). The play “99%” was taken as a concrete example for promotion and involvement of the larger community in the last workshop. After the opening of the play, each partner organized local activities destined to disseminate methods and results obtained by the project (more workshops, conferences, public presentations). The results of the project as well as the play are published on the project’s blog.

In Italy, at Teatro Excelsior (Reggello, FI), during 5 days, learners and staff from Luxembourg, Spain and Italy, both hearing and deaf, learned about the "Viewpoints" theatre method and created in groups their own performances (represented all over the town of Reggello) using the "Viewpoints" tools to generate ideas and create a theatre form.
