    Living in a Changing Climate

"Living in a Changing Climate" is a bilateral partnership between an Icelandic and a Hungarian secondary school. The main objective was to investigate how ecosystems and human communities can exist in an environment shaped by the climate change. The two teams of 16-18-year old students worked on various projects targeting the signs of change in their countries and in two different ecosystems. One is a coastal-marine ecosystem in oceanic climate (the Höfn region), the other is a wetland-lake ecosystem in continental climate (the Balaton and Kis-Balaton region). The teams went to field trips an turned their eyes and ears – using cameras, microphones and microscopes – towards glaciers, migratory birds, lake-side meadows and seaside plains, salt- and freshwater ecosystems. They visited and observed forests, invasive species, shifting habitats, changing farming and fishing practices. The collected data where then compared. The results of their investigation have been put on a joint project website http://globe.fas.is/ - In addition to the scientific segment of the project work the students also explored their partner country. They were staying with their partners' families, visited school lessons, national parks and remote country sides, small villages and capital cities, festivals and museums, industrial plants and research institutes. The teams had the opportunity to see and feel the differences but also the very common features of the Icelandic and Hungarian culture and lifestyle. From the very beginning of the project work, emphasis was laid upon students' active involvement regarding the whole program, including the preparation for and the completion of the mobilities. Besides this, the involvement of the parents and the school/local community were kept in mind wherever it was possible so that everyone interested can learn about us as much as possible. This is the most important and fullest collection of what the Project has created. The website includes: - information about the participanting schools - personal introduction of each participant - students' presentations about various topics (history, economy, nature and nature protection, climate change, culture, the place that they visited during the mobilities) - programs of the two mobilities - diary articles produced daily by students during the visits - hundreds of pictures - and more
