The European Mentoring & Befriending Exchange Programme arises from the need of mentoring & befriending coordinators to exchange their knowledge and experiences across Europe in order to increase the quality of their work, generate new ideas and find solutions to common problems. Mentoring & Befriending organisations aim at matching volunteers with vulnerable people in a long-lasting one-to-one mentoring/befriending relationship. The focus of the present project is on those mentoring and befriending organsations which match adult volunteers with children. Mutual understanding, respect, confidence and voluntariness are key to such a sustainable relationship. This is an adult educational project which consists of 4 workshops (duration: 2.5 days each) held at the partner institutions throughout the 2-year period. The topics of the workshops are: - Recruitment and selection of mentors/befrienders and mentees/befriendees - How to set up a mentoring/befriending intervention and the mentors/befrienders training process - Issue-focused mentoring/befriending using the example of education for sustainable development within mentoring/befriending programmes - How to develop and run a national project quality award scheme - Evaluation and effectiveness in mentoring and befriending The workshops aim at exchanging experiences between coordinators of mentoring/befriending programmes across Europe to increase the quality of their work, generate new ideas and find solutions for common problems. In order to make the experiences and ideas available to more programmes in the future, a handbook will be written covering the key findings of each of the workshops.
