European perspectives on raising social competencies of offenders

There are more offenders in European countries today than at any other time in history. Every year large number of prisoners are released back into society, with the majority of them returning to prison within just a short time after their release. They lack social competencies to be included smoothly; they require specific knowledge and tools to help them to leave the crime behind and integrate into communities’ life. The project "European perspectives on raising social competencies of offenders" developed strategies to strengthen social competencies of prisoners and ex-prisoners and prepared innovative teaching and learning material on strengthening of social competencies of offenders. Project combined experience, knowledge and skills of European organization with various expertises: academic institutions, research and training centres, government, schools, non-governmental organisations and prisons. During the project lifetime all partners: - participated as equal partners in all activities; - proposed solutions to the project; - presented other partners with best practices of organization and/or country; - executed linguistic preparation programme within organization; - assisted learners with arrangements for partners meetings; - monitored project progress and outcomes and informed the lead partner; - developed innovative teaching and learning tools on strengthening of social competencies of offenders; - contributed to interim and final reports; - initiated local dissemination activities; - participated in any international dissemination activities; - evaluated success of the project - all partners took responsibility for specific tasks according the project needs. All together project partners prepared educational tools, which were widely disseminated by Internet and during specific dissemination events in each country. Developed teaching and learning tools were successfully applied in other organisations and are recommended for all European communities
