The project "Castles - where common European values were born" consisted of two parts and a short preparatory phase. The introductory phase lasted a few weeks, during which the students had a chance to get gradually involved in the process of international cooperation by performing tasks such as creating dictionaries, making school presentations, learning how to use the blog and wikispaces, getting matched with their peers for an email exchange and gathering basic knowledge about the partner schools' countries. Part one "Castles. Looking into the past" (2011/2012) dealt with the pupils discovering the common roots which shaped European identity and was generally history-oriented. This aim was achieved by exploring medieval legends, learning about knights and their code of honour, getting to know facts about daily lives in medieval societies and constructing modern codes of behaviour. Part two "Castles. Looking into the future" (2012/2013) dealt with the pupils exploring places of cultural and historical heritage in their countries and regions, learning about the necessity to preserve these monuments of the past for future generations, preparing and publishing a guidebook of European castles. The project was also aimed at exchanging pedagogical thought and examples of good practice by observing partner teachers at work, visiting schools, meeting host students. Project's thematic stages included: "U-Knighted by Knowledge", "U-Knighted by Legends", "U-Knighted by Art", "U-Knighted by Food", "U-Knighted by Sport","U-Knighted by Tourism","U-Knighted by Literature", "U-Knighted by the Cinema", "U-Knighted by the Code". The most important products included: a website, blog and wiki, Castle Flashcards, Contemporary Student's Chivalry Code, Castles Tourist Guidebook, Medieval Recipes Cookery Book, Castle Story Book and Castle Feature Films. The most important project events were: a Legend Show, Art Exhibition, Castle Tournament, Film Festival, Book Fair (see report for more).
Uczniowie odbyli serie wycieczek do lokalnych zamków, wykonywali broszury turystyczne. Etapy tematyczne projektu to (nieprzetłumaczalne na język polski ze względu na grę słów United - U-Knighted, mających to samo brzmienie w języku angielskim): "U-Knighted by Knowledge", "U-Knighted by Legends", "U-Knighted by Art", "U-Knighted by Food", "U-Knighted by Sport","U-Knighted by Tourism","U-Knighted by Literature", "U-Knighted by the Cinema", "U-Knighted by the Code".
