Cultural bridge between Nevsehir and Trakai

"Cultural bridge between Nevsehir and Trakai" was a Comenius bilateral school partnership project of Traku r. Senuju Traku Andzejaus Stelamachovskio basic school in Litghuania and Nevsehir Technical and Vocational High School in Turkey in 2011-2013. The main aim of the project is to facilitate intercultural training and modern European language learning. The language teaching in cross-cultural dimension is one of the tasks of modern European schools, so our students were not only provided with reciprocal lingual, cultural knowledge, but they also actively acquired cultural awareness by tackling such topics as respect for ethnical minorities. The schools benefited from treasure trove of Karaim ethnical heritage, an ethinical minority, which both of our lands share. This project fostered empathy with people of different backgrounds. We dealt with subjects like immigration, xenophobia, adjusting to a new culture and the dilemmas when one belongs to two cultures. As nothing can substitute for actual interaction with members of other culture students exchanges between both schools tooke place. Lithuanians visited Turkey on 25th March - 4th April, 2012, Turkish delegation had a mobility to Lithuania on 17th-27th September, 2012 and 17th-21st May, 2013. Before, during and after these mobilities students actively learned each other's language, were involved in a team work and cultural exploration. Theyl produced several products of their collaboration: e-group, a web site, theatre plays, photo exhibitions, photo albums, brochures with translated folklore and much more. Both sides involved enjoyed higher performance quality in our schools and broader knowledge and skills for teachers and pupils. By the end of the project the students knew some basics of each other's language and got substantial understanding and sympathy for partner's country, it's people and all people of United Europe.
