MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO - A HEALTHY MIND IS IN A HEALTHY BODY

We recognise the importance of active play, games and sports participation in developing children’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills. We are aware that increasing numbers of children, especially girls, disengage from active play at an early age. We aim to encourage children to make choices that keep them involved in play, especially across those years children when tend to disengage from play. We will work too remove any barriers to participation – whether through ethnic, gender, disability, social, economic or other circumstance. We are aware that many children grow up with poor self-esteem. We will provide all children with opportunities to grow in self-esteem and confidence. Our project theme will be MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO – A HEALTHY MIND IS IN A HEALTHY BODY. We want to empower our children to make responsible informed life choices. We will relate common threads of development through a context of Healthy Living, with focus on play, participation and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. We will bring the playground into the classroom. We will explore factors that affect choices children make – where any factor presents a barrier to participation we will work to overcome this. We will also focus on respect for ‘difference’ and the richness of European diversity. We will promote celebration of others, not tolerance of others. We will promote the principle that Every Child Belongs. Inclusion and integration will be essential. We will promote maximum inclusion and positive integration but not assimilation. We will facilitate the inclusion of all children, including especially those who may be at risk of exclusion. The development of ‘the whole child growing to become the whole adult’ will be the ‘fil rouge’ or key thread of our project.
