“Old Trades and professions” stands for a multilateral project in which schools from the Netherlands, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain and Germany are on their way to research their cultural origin and give each other closer looks into this rich heritage. Together we want to contribute in upgrading our home regions; in researching the historical, geographical and social aspects of old trades and professions in our home regions. In a first step every school finds out which old trades have been prominent in their region. They try to investigate important facts of the history of these trades and their importance for the region. How did people make a living from these old trades, to what countries did they sell their products (connections between the partners) and what about the working and living conditions in former times compared to now. Which of these old trades survived and in what way are they still important for the region, for example for the development of tourism of the regions. In a second step we want to compare these trades important to the regions and find out similarities/differences and the reasons for them. Our students will get active and creative. They will learn about old trades and professions not only in their home regions, but also about possibilities of a common European market. Our aim is the create a "European awareness" of our students. We try to develop an open minded attitude towards the possibilities available in their region, a certain focus on their cultural traditions, but also on the great variety of possibilities that are available. Project results will be a virtual museum of old trades with contributions of all countries, leaflets about the trades and objects they produce, interviews/photoshows and a story book connected to the trades.
