Healthy Living in a Traditional European Way

Our project seeks to promote a ‘European Coming Together’ of partner schools to share each country’s traditions, values and cultural heritage. We aim to discover and participate in each partner school’s social and academic life so that the whole school community – pupils, teachers, parents, Board of Management and local community may benefit from our involvement in the project. We will undertake project-based activities which will enhance pupil learning and contribute to the overall knowledge base of each participating school. Each activity will be shared with member schools and new skills and knowledge disseminated to all involved. We will share knowledge, skills and best practice in terms of Healthy Living under the headings of Food and Recipes, Games and Sports, Music and Dance and the Visual Arts. Our activities and initiatives will be undertaken by pupils, teachers, parents and Board of Management members. We will encourage participation of all class levels and will differentiate activities to include those with special needs. This project will take place within the parameters of each participating country’s National Curriculum and will complement and enhance classroom work. All activities will be integrated into relevant subject areas.

Our project began with international food in Ireland in 2009. Then with 8 pupils we visited the Viennese partner and exchanged ourselves with the pupils there. In Palermo plays were introduced, in Spain then national dances. In Vienna we exchanged music projects and in Germany art was the subject. From the designer Otl Aicher up to the artist Lenk. The world cultural heritage Reichenau was also visited just as the Ravensburger plays. The last meeting in Ireland with 8 pupils.
