The BRIDGE project (Best practice in Resettlement Issues Developed in a Grundtvig European partnership) has been a project aimed at improving the way prisons manage the resettlement of prisoners. Some of the partners have used this opportunity to develop more resources and information for those prisoners due to be released; others have used the information to better inform prison officers during training; some have developed counselling and guidance skills; others have streamlined their exit strategy for prisoners; one of the external agencies involved has supported training in parenting and pre-release work; another of the group has dramatically improved language skills offering courses to staff and Directors alike; some have worked hard to change the perception of prisoners and others have improved the physical area for families visiting prison; some of the group have spent time trying to develop links with community agencies and several of the partnership have held conferences to highlight this important work. During the two years of the project we have visited each county taking part and where possible we have used the skills of the Prison Video Trust Charity to record the voices of staff, prisoners and their families as we undertake this important journey in improving the resettlement process for the whole family.
