This innovative project developed ways of teaching languages to adults who are socially excluded, low-skilled or from deprived areas. All partner organisations use creative methods in language teaching and by working together developed, and explored how best to utilise, a virtual learning environment called TeesLearn Moodle. A key achievement is the sustainability of the project. Through the TeesLearn Moodle learners can have conversations through MSN messenger and webcams with native speakers in English, French, Greek or Spanish. Videos and animations made with Moviemaker are also available to download together with a wealth of other learning materials. Strong transnational relationships were forged, and have been maintained beyond the life of the project. The coordinating organisation has already won recognition for its work, including the Adult and Community Learning Award at the prestigious BECTA Next Generation Awards Ceremony (Technology Excellence in Further Education and Skills), and the Office for Standards in Education commented on the benefit that the project has brought to local learners. An unexpected outcome is that in France, Greece and Spain all three organisations have come to be regarded as at the cutting edge of innovation in the use of technology.
