Greenfield Special School
Duffryn Road, Pentrebach – Merthyr Tydfil
This project was a multilateral partnership between special education needs schools with a majority of pupils coming from socio-economically disadvantaged background. The project put the students at the centre, enabling them to plan and manage the project and, in the case of senior students, go on mobilities. These opportunities, both in terms of the travel and the overseeing of a project, were ones that had been much less available to the students prior to the project. The project aimed to enhance the student’s understanding of their own culture and heritage, and that of the other countries involved in the project, through the sharing of stories, traditions, festivals, music and food. The project and the opportunities that it brought facilitated both the enhancement and enrichment of the curriculum, and the personal development of the students involved, bolstering their confidence and social skills.
